Il ritardo nella crescita è un vero e proprio problema di salute pubblica, poiché è la causa della metà dei decessi infantili. Deriva da una malnutrizione ricorrente o da cattive abitudini alimentari nei bambini, che causano una carenza di uno o più nutrienti essenziali. Nel 2017 e nel 2019, la prevalenza della malnutrizione cronica a livello nazionale era accettabile, rispettivamente del 17% e del 19%. Tuttavia, la regione di Sédhiou, nota per la fertilità dei suoi terreni e la ricchezza e la diversità delle sue colture, registra tassi preoccupanti di malnutrizione cronica: 21,4% nel 2013, 26,6% nel 2018 e 28,7% nel 2019. Pertanto, l’obiettivo di questo studio è quello di esaminare i fattori associati al ritardo della crescita nei bambini di età inferiore ai 5 anni nella regione di Sédhiou nel 2019. Si tratta di uno studio trasversale descrittivo e analitico. La popolazione target dello studio era costituita da bambini di età inferiore ai 5 anni. Il metodo di campionamento scelto per la realizzazione di questa indagine è un campionamento a grappolo a due stadi.
