O atraso no crescimento é um verdadeiro problema de saúde pública, pois é a causa de metade das mortes infantis. Resulta de subalimentação repetitiva ou de más práticas alimentares nas crianças, levando à deficiência de um ou mais nutrientes essenciais. Em 2017 e 2019, a prevalência da desnutrição crónica a nível nacional era aceitável, situando-se em 17 % e 19 %, respetivamente. Enquanto isso, a região de Sédhiou, conhecida pela fertilidade de suas terras e pela riqueza e diversidade de suas culturas, registra taxas precárias de desnutrição crónica: 21,4% em 2013, 26,6% em 2018 e 28,7% em 2019. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo é investigar os fatores associados ao atraso no crescimento em crianças menores de 5 anos na região de Sédhiou em 2019. Trata-se de um estudo transversal descritivo e analítico. A população-alvo do estudo foram crianças menores de 5 anos. O método de amostragem escolhido para a realização desta pesquisa foi uma amostragem por conglomerados em dois graus.
