Lo studio è stato condotto con l’intento di sensibilizzare le donne in età riproduttiva al fine di ridurre la mortalità materna e infantile in India. Secondo l’OMS (2010), il 18% del carico globale di mortalità materna si registra in India. In questo studio viene esaminata l’autonomia delle donne, misurata attraverso alcune decisioni, e la sua associazione con l’assistenza per una maternità sicura in diversi stati dell’India. Lo studio descrive l’autonomia e l’assistenza per una maternità sicura sotto diverse prospettive. Lo studio analizza inoltre l’evoluzione nel tempo, considerando la relazione tra autonomia e assistenza per una maternità sicura. I risultati indicano che il livello di coinvolgimento delle donne nel processo decisionale e nell’assistenza per una maternità sicura varia nelle diverse regioni del Paese. I risultati indicano inoltre che si osserva un divario temporale positivo sia per l’autonomia che per l’assistenza per una maternità sicura.
