Cet ouvrage est le résultat d’une recherche fondée sur l’analyse sociolinguistique d’élèves âgés de 8 à 12 ans issus de communautés défavorisées de la municipalité de Petrópolis, dans l’État de Rio de Janeiro, dans le but d’établir un panorama actuel de la réalité linguistique de ces communautés et de vérifier comment cela est travaillé dans les écoles qui desservent ces communautés. En outre, il a cherché à discuter de l’écart possible entre l’usage effectif des élèves et les règles grammaticales, à comprendre ce que les enseignants du primaire entendent par variation linguistique et l’impact de cette connaissance sur la pratique pédagogique, et à proposer l’adoption d’une approche pédagogique pratique et cohérente pour traiter ces variantes.
