Sus hojas sirven para dar sombra al tabaco y techar viviendas, el tronco proporciona tablas para casas y muebles, la yagua se utiliza para envasar tabaco en rama y se conoce como tercio; de sus frutos llamados palmiche, se alimentan los animales.Este árbol prodigioso brinda tres servicios ecosistémicos: aportar refugio para la fauna silvestre, sitios para la nidificación de las aves silvestres que anidan en cavidades en los troncos de los árboles y alimento para la avifauna.Este es el libro sobre este árbol importante de la flora cubana, reconocido como la reina de los campos por su magestuosidad y belleza.
