'L’amour de l’homme est une chose à part dans la vie de l’homme, c’est toute l’existence de la femme.' Byron Oui, l’amour est toute la vie d’une femme. Certaines femmes modernes pourraient objecter à cela. Elles pourraient dire que c’était vrai pour la femme du passé, qui était exclue de toutes les autres voies de l’activité humaine. La femme d’aujourd’hui a d’autres intérêts que ceux de l’amour. Mais je prétends que cela n’est vrai que pour un petit pourcentage de femmes ; et même pour cette petite minorité de femmes, les activités sociales, scientifiques et artistiques ne peuvent pas prendre la place de l’amour ; aussi occupées et prospères que soient ces femmes, elles vous diront, si vous appréciez leur confiance, qu’elles sont malheureuses, que leur vie amoureuse n’est pas satisfaisante. Rien, rien ne peut combler le vide créé par le manque d’amour. Les activités diverses peuvent aider à couvrir ce vide, à le protéger des regards étrangers, elles ne peuvent pas le combler. Car la femme est essentiellement faite pour l’amour. Pas exclusivement, mais essentiellement, et une femme qui n’a pas eu d’amour dans sa vie est un échec. Les quelques exceptions que l’on peut mentionner ne font que souligner la règle.
