Il lindano (gamma esacloroesano) è il più tossico tra tutti gli isomeri dell’esacloroesano e possiede potenti proprietà insetticide; viene utilizzato per il controllo degli insetti nelle colture agricole e dei parassiti nelle abitazioni. Una delle principali vie di esposizione umana è la contaminazione alimentare, poiché i suoi residui sono stati rilevati nell’acqua, nel latte, nell’olio da cucina e nel pesce. Si ritiene che nel fegato il lindano agisca interferendo con la capacità ossidativa epatica e il metabolismo del glutatione. Il primo obiettivo di questo studio era quello di esplorare l’effetto istopatologico del lindano sul cuore e il ruolo della CK e dell’ET-1 nella tossicità cardiaca nei ratti maschi. Il secondo obiettivo era quello di verificare l’ipotesi che la curcumina avesse un ruolo cardioprotettivo e antiossidante contro questi effetti tossici.
