1/ Năm 2013, tôi bắt đầu viết Tiểu thuyết tư liệu Hồ Chí Minh, sau mười năm thì hủy bỏ; số lượng bản thảo thải loại, cân nặng năm ki-lô-gam. Tuy nhiên, tôi cũng có trích một vài chi tiết, chuyển sang bản thảo Tiểu thuyết chính luận La Bàn.           2/ La Bàn, viết từ năm 2019, khi tham dự Trại sáng tác tiểu thuyết của Hội Nhà văn Việt Nam, tại Hà Nội. (Trại này kéo dài một tháng rưỡi, thay vì mười lăm ngày, như thông lệ các trại sáng tác khác). Bản thảo hoàn thành tại thành phố Tuyên Quang, sau năm năm viết lách và chỉnh sửa.           La Bàn, viết về bi kịch của dân tộc Việt Nam, khi đã không đồng hành cùng nhân loại, mà lại lạc vào con đường cộng sản.           Nhân đây, tôi xin chân thành cám ơn Hội Nhà văn Việt Nam đã tạo điều kiện thuận lợi trong giai đoạn 'bếp núc', khởi thảo tác phẩm. Cám ơn Giáo sư Chu Hảo đã góp ý đổi tên từ La Bàn đỏ, thành La Bàn. Cám ơn nhiều thành viên tổ chức Tư vấn của Thủ tướng và Viện Nghiên cứu Phát triển IDS (Instutites of Development Studies)..., mà tôi đã gặp gỡ sưu tầm tư liệu, hoặc lấy làm nguyên mẫu trong tiểu thuyết này.           3/ Tuy khác nhau về thể loại, Võ Nguyên Giáp là tiểu thuyết lịch sử và La Bàn là tiểu thuyết chính luận, nhưng hai tiểu thuyết này cũng có phần hòa nhập, về bối cảnh xã hội và các nhân vật có thể nhìn thấy nhau, thấp thoáng qua bức rèm thời cuộc.Thành phố Tuyên Quang, 2024Vũ Xuân Tửu
