Das vorliegende Buch geht auf eine Vorlesung für Hörer aller Fakultäten mit dem Titel Methoden der Verwandtschaftsfor­ schung zurück, die ich im Sommersemester 1981 an der Uni­ versität Zürich gehalten habe. Die seit diesem Termin erschie­ nene Literatur über Fragen des Kladismus konnte nur in be­ scheidenem Umfang im Rahmen des vorliegenden Textes ver­ arbeitet werden. Von dieser Einschränkung ist besonders das hervorragende Werk von Gareth Nelson und Norman Plat­ nick, Systematics and Biogeography (Columbia University Press, New York, 1981) betroffen, das den Kladismus in den Zusammenhang mit der Biogeographie stellt, sowie die von M. Cartmill publizierte Kritik am Schwestergruppenvergleich und der damit verbundenen Anwendung der Regel der ein­ fachsten Lösung (
