Considérant le contexte de la consommation, la centralité de la communication et sa matérialité dans le monde contemporain, l’auteur, par le biais d’une recherche ethnographique, cherche à analyser l’utilisation répandue des téléphones portables par les enfants comme un autre outil qui semble renforcer la construction de réseaux de relations de base pour la survie quotidienne, en particulier dans la médiation des relations familiales ou entre parents et enfants. Ce travail a été réalisé selon une approche interdisciplinaire : anthropologie culturelle/culture matérielle ; technologies de la communication et éducation. L’auteur a suivi pendant treize mois la vie quotidienne de onze enfants, âgés de 9 à 12 ans, dans leur cercle social, appartenant à des familles de classe moyenne ayant des profils socioculturels similaires. L’auteur cherche à mettre en évidence comment les pratiques de consommation liées aux téléphones portables ont influencé ces enfants dans le cercle social auquel ils appartiennent, et comment ces processus de communication ont donné à ces enfants une visibilité pour la construction sociale de leur autonomie. Ce livre s’adresse aux parents, aux enseignants, aux éducateurs, aux professionnels du marketing et des technologies de la communication.
