Considerando il contesto dei consumi, la centralità della comunicazione e la sua materialità nel mondo contemporaneo, l’autrice, attraverso una ricerca etnografica, cerca di analizzare la diffusione dell’uso del cellulare da parte dei bambini come un ulteriore strumento che sembra rafforzare la costruzione di reti di relazioni fondamentali per la sopravvivenza quotidiana, soprattutto nella mediazione delle relazioni familiari o tra genitori e figli. Il lavoro è stato condotto con un approccio interdisciplinare: antropologia culturale/cultura materiale, tecnologie della comunicazione ed educazione. L’autore ha seguito per tredici mesi la vita quotidiana di undici bambini, di età compresa tra i 9 e i 12 anni, nella loro cerchia sociale, appartenenti a famiglie della classe media con profili socio-culturali simili. L’autore cerca di evidenziare come le pratiche di consumo legate ai telefoni cellulari abbiano influenzato questi bambini nella cerchia sociale a cui appartengono e come questi processi di comunicazione abbiano dato a questi bambini visibilità per la costruzione sociale della loro autonomia. Questo libro si rivolge a genitori, insegnanti, educatori, professionisti del marketing e della tecnologia della comunicazione.
