Iris falls in love with a young man named Osaka, who is actually a wealthy nobleman in disguise. However, their love is thwarted by Osaka’s father, who disapproves of their relationship, and Iris is ultimately betrayed by those she trusted most. The opera explores themes of love, betrayal, and the plight of women in Japanese society at the time.
