About the Author’s Studies is the opening essay in Rosmini’s Introduzione allaFilosfia. Written towards the end of his life and after the publication of manyworks on philosophy, the essay first deals with the aims he had in writing thoseworks. He wanted to combat error. According to him, we tend to clutch at theoutward show of good rather than the true good. In the struggle down the agesagainst error, knowledge of truth has increased. Rosmini wishes to systematisethese truths and present a philosophy that can serve as a basis for all branchesof knowledge. Finally, granted religious faith, he wants to present philosophyas an aid to theology because there is no opposition between revelation andphilosophy. 3
