L’inactivité est le principal facteur de risque pour d’innombrables maladies, c’est pourquoi l’activité physique est devenue un élément incontournable de la science dans le traitement des maladies mentales (Deslandes et al., 2009). Diverses études ont montré que le mode de vie influence également la santé mentale. Outre l’activité physique, les activités culturelles, la limitation de la consommation d’alcool et de tabac, la réduction de l’IMC à un niveau normal et une alimentation saine sont également des facteurs favorables à la santé mentale. Il a été démontré que les changements de mode de vie mentionnés ci-dessus entraînent une réduction des symptômes dépressifs et de l’anxiété, ainsi qu’une satisfaction accrue dans la vie et une meilleure estime de soi, ce qui contribue à son tour à la santé mentale (Velten et al., 2014).
