Objetivo: determinar la Inteligencia emocional y su relación con Rendimiento Académico y otras variable demográficas en estudiantes de la Universidad de Manizales (Manizales, Colombia). Método: Se escogió una muestra de 263 estudiantes correspondiendo a una población general de 3209 estudiantes regulares inscritos en el 2° semestre del año 2012. Se empleó el cuestionario EQ-i de Barón para medir la Inteligencia emocional, la Oficina de Registro de la Universidad proporcionó las notas de los estudiantes hasta ese momento y se tomaron otras variables. Resultados: se encontró un cociente de inteligencia emocional promedio de 46,51 en esta población, 47,17 para el género femenino, y 45,57 para el género masculino. Este cociente depende de cada programa, con un máximo de 62,9 para economía, 55,69 para Medicina, 54,28 para psicología, y un mínimo de 36,58 para Derecho. Se encontró correlación significativa entre el valor de IE, y nota promedio hasta el momento (p=0,019), mayor para el Programa de Medicina (p=0,001), después el Programa de Psicología (0=0,066), y no significativa en los otros Programas. Se presenta un modelo de dependencia cúbica entre c.emocional, y rend. académico.
