Indien ist der weltweit größte Produzent und Verbraucher von Hülsenfrüchten. Unter den Hülsenfrüchten ist die Straucherbse (Cajanus cajan) die zweitwichtigste Hülsenfrucht, die in diesem Land angebaut wird. Die Straucherbse ist in den frühen Wachstumsstadien aufgrund ihres langsamen Wachstums und der größeren Abstände zwischen den Pflanzen stark von Unkrautbefall betroffen. Traditionelle Methoden der Unkrautbekämpfung, d. h. Zwischenkulturen oder das reine Jäten, sind mühsam, teuer und unzureichend. In Indien wurden umfangreiche Forschungen zur chemischen Unkrautbekämpfung bei Straucherbse durchgeführt, die vielversprechende Ergebnisse mit einer Reihe von Herbiziden vor und nach dem Auflaufen zeigten. Unter Berücksichtigung dieser Punkte wurde die vorliegende Studie durchgeführt, um die Auswirkungen von Herbiziden vor und nach dem Auflaufen sowie von Handjätverfahren auf die Unkrautbekämpfung und den Ertrag von Straucherbse unter Regenfeldbedingungen an der Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore zu untersuchen.
