As infecções hospitalares (IH) são infecções contraídas por pacientes enquanto estão em uma unidade de saúde, geralmente ocorrendo 48 horas ou mais após a admissão no hospital. Elas podem ser causadas por diferentes fontes, como dispositivos médicos, cirurgias e transferência entre pacientes e profissionais de saúde.As infecções hospitalares, também conhecidas como infecções associadas aos cuidados de saúde ou infecções nosocomiais, são infecções que ocorrem em pacientes durante o tratamento num ambiente de saúde. Elas não estão em incubação nem estão presentes durante a admissão e geralmente aparecem 48 horas ou mais após a admissão do paciente no hospital.
