L’irrigazione e il suo sviluppo sono essenziali in India, poiché l’agricoltura è la principale occupazione degli indiani. Le precipitazioni del nostro Paese dipendono dai monsoni. Le precipitazioni controllano la nostra agricoltura. Circa l’80% delle precipitazioni annuali totali dell’India si verifica in quattro mesi, cioè da metà giugno a metà ottobre. È stato attuato dall’ex primo ministro dell’Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, come promessa elettorale ai coltivatori dello Stato, per portare 73 ettari di terreno irriguo in cinque anni. Il concetto di Jalayagnam mira a fornire una soluzione permanente alla siccità e alle inondazioni.
