Seit Ewigkeiten werden natürliche Verbindungen oft zur Vorbeugung und Behandlung von verschiedenen Krankheiten genutzt. Eine Gruppe von natürlichen Verbindungen, die in letzter Zeit bei Forschern und Ärzten immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommt, sind Pilzpolysaccharide. Neben den makroskopischen Pilzen, also den Pilzen, sind auch Hefen eine Quelle für wertvolle Polysaccharide, die in ihren Zellwänden stecken. Beta-Glucan als Teil der Hefezellwand wurde in Bezug auf seine biologische Aktivität und seine Wechselwirkung als nicht-adaptiver immunmodulierender Wirkstoff sowie andere biologische Effekte bei der Anwendung in verschiedenen Systemen in vivo und in vitro intensiv untersucht. Aus diesem Grund war es das Ziel dieser Studie, die Wirkung von β-Glucan als antiangiogener Wirkstoff und andere immunologische Effekte zu untersuchen.
