Questo studio con metodi misti, condotto su 157 studenti svantaggiati e sei insegnanti di una scuola elementare del sud-est degli Stati Uniti, ha esaminato l’efficacia di un programma di tutoraggio extrascolastico settimanale nel miglioramento dei voti degli studenti. I voti ottenuti dagli studenti nei corsi di lettura, lingua inglese e matematica sono stati confrontati utilizzando test t indipendenti e analisi della varianza. Questi sono stati anche confrontati con i voti corrispondenti degli studenti che non hanno partecipato al programma. Lo studio ha incluso interviste approfondite con sei (6) insegnanti coinvolti nel programma per fornire ulteriori informazioni qualitative sui vantaggi e gli svantaggi del programma di tutoraggio. I risultati hanno mostrato benefici significativi in tutte le materie. Gli insegnanti hanno valutato positivamente il programma e ritengono che dovrebbe essere ampliato. Le raccomandazioni includono la continuazione e la possibile espansione del programma.
