Äthiopien ist eines der wenigen Länder der Welt, das eine einzigartige Flora und Fauna mit einem hohen Grad an Endemismus besitzt (WCMC, 1991). Dennoch haben die Wälder und Waldgebiete Äthiopiens sowohl an Größe als auch an Artenreichtum verloren. Aufgrund der anhaltenden Übergriffe kann davon ausgegangen werden, dass die Entwaldung zweifellos weitergehen wird, bis akzeptable Alternativen gefunden werden, und dass die natürlichen Waldressourcen in den kommenden Jahren erschöpft sein werden. Aus diesem Grund soll in dieser aktuellen Studie untersucht werden, welche Arten vorhanden sind, welche Arten gut gedeihen, welche Arten ökologisch wichtig sind, die Zusammensetzung der Holzgewächse, die Struktur und der Regenerationszustand der Holzgewächse sowie die Probleme bei der Bewirtschaftung untersucht und dokumentiert werden. Die Ergebnisse der Studie werden einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Entwicklung nachhaltiger Forstwirtschaftspraktiken leisten, die zur Erhaltung der Waldbiodiversität in der Region führen werden.
