El origen de la Universidad, en algunos casos, se remonta solamente en la visión occidental (Europa), desconociendo y olvidando la visión oriental (Asia) que comúnmente posee un desarrollo más avanzado y estructurado que ha permitido un avance ajeno al mundo occidental.Es importante disipar la idea de que la universidad tiene su comienzo en el mundo occidental, tomando como modelo referencial a la Academia platónica y/o la Universidad de Bolonia en Italia del siglo XI d. C. De hecho, en China, India y en el mundo árabe, la universidad remonta a un período anterior a la Academia platónica. Por tal motivo, se hará un recuento histórico del proceso que tuvieron las diferentes escuelas y universidades respecto a la enseñanza de las humanidades y de las otras ciencias.
