Der Schwerpunkt dieser Studie lag auf der Untersuchung und Charakterisierung neuartiger Mikrobenstämme, die aus kulinarischen Blattproben isoliert wurden und hohe Konzentrationen an Exopolysacchariden (EPS) produzieren können. Aus dem Phylloplan verschiedener Pflanzen wurden fünf Isolate untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass ein Stamm (SNIST-CM-02) die Fähigkeit zur Produktion von EPS besitzt. Dieser Stamm SNIST-CM-02 wurde anhand der Nukleotidsequenz des 16srRNA-Gens als Micrococcus lutes identifiziert. Die Sequenz wurde unter der Zugangsnummer KX261689 in die Nukleotidsequenzdatenbank GenBank aufgenommen. Verschiedene physikalische Parameter für die Biopolymerproduktion wurden mit der Software Design Expert Version 7.0 unter Verwendung der Response-Surface-Methodik optimiert. Nach unserem Kenntnisstand ist dies der erste Bericht, dass Micrococcus lutes in der Lage ist, EPS zu produzieren.
