Das vorliegende Werk wurde in Benin erstellt, um den verschiedenen Akteuren, darunter Fischereiexperten, Behörden, technische und finanzielle Partner, Nutzer, Lehrkräfte, Studierende und Schüler von Ausbildungseinrichtungen mit Schwerpunkt Fischerei, unter anderem ein besseres Verständnis der Geräte und Methoden zu vermitteln, die in den Fischereien des Nokoué-Sees zum Einsatz kommen. Es enthält eine Beschreibung der Geräte, ihrer jeweiligen Funktionsweise und ihres Selektivitätsgrades. Insgesamt werden zehn Geräte (Angelschnur, Langleine, Krabbenfalle, Schleppnetz, „Tokpokonou', Kescher, Stellnetz, Kiemennetz, Reuse und „Acadja') sowie zwei Methoden (aktive und passive) zum Fang von Fischen, Garnelen und Krabben wurden inventarisiert und beschrieben. Abgesehen vom Stellnetz und der Krabbenfalle sind alle anderen Fanggeräte wenig selektiv. Sie bestehen aus feinmaschigen Netzen und können sogar Fischeier einfangen.
