George Digby acted as adviser to two kings of England, Charles I and II. He was an admired parliamentarian and a general in the civil war. His reputation was tarnished by his bitter enemy, Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon, yet he made a significant contribution to the Royalist cause in the 17th century. Handsome, mercurial, courageous and brilliant, he cut a dazzling figure in the society of the time. His life was full of incident and adventure. This book attempts to give a balanced and fair account of a man full of contradictions, both loved and hated by his contemporaries.
