Os SIG têm um impacto positivo no planeamento do uso da terra e na gestão dos recursos naturais. Os Camarões, tendo compreendido isto, estabeleceram em Julho de 2016 um documento intitulado 'Diretrizes para o Inventário de Exploração', para uma melhor gestão do seu património florestal. Este livro fornece orientação sobre as técnicas a serem usadas para geolocalização de árvores e apresentação de resultados de inventário. É em consonância com este trabalho que consideramos oportuno escrever este manual prático, que fornece informações detalhadas sobre o manuseio aprofundado de ferramentas SIG na gestão cartográfica de inventários florestais. Sua função é orientar os usuários passo a passo sobre como começar a usar o QGIS, desde a instalação até o desenho de mapas de inventário operacional em escalas regulatórias, respeitando o posicionamento geográfico de todas as bases das árvores, bem como outros usos da terra listados durante o trabalho de inventário. Está dividido em seis capítulos.
