Aufgrund wirtschaftlicher Probleme junger Menschen ist das Heiratsalter in der Gesellschaft gestiegen. Deshalb steigt das Heiratsalter bei Frauen im gebärfähigen Alter, was dazu führt, dass die Eizellen altern und nicht mehr genügend Energie für die Bildung einer Zygote vorhanden ist. In dieser Studie spielt das MSX1-Gen eine Rolle bei der Unterbrechung des Eisprungs. Die Studie ergab, dass genetische Variationen in diesem Gen mit zunehmendem Alter der Mutter bei der Schwangerschaft sowie mit dem Talent und Lebensstil der Eizellenzellen der Mutter, der Ernährung und den Bedingungen des Ökosystems eine bedeutende Rolle bei der Entwicklung einer Schwangerschaftsunterbrechung spielen können.
