Nuestros padres nos han dado nombre y nos han legado los apellidos que dicen quién somos. Una multitud de antepasados han cruzado sus genes para producir los que cada uno de nosotros tenemos. Pero si comparamos los árboles genealógicos de dos individuos coetáneos, descubrimos que, al remontarnos a un tiempo no muy lejano, resultan idénticos. ¿Cómo de importante es nuestro legado genético? ¿Hasta qué punto nos condiciona? «Genes y genealogías. Sobre nuestra herencia cultural y biológica» relaciona nuestras características culturales y biológicas con la intención de hacernos comprender como aparecen algunas regularidades y, a la vez, deshacer algunos mitos sobre la relevancia de la herencia. De este modo, el lector se replanteará el valor de la herencia genética y la importancia de determinadas características culturales que aparentemente nos definen.
