This book is useful for those who are doing work in sesame, generation mean analysis. In sesame, due to epipetalous flower structure, there is good scope for exploitation of heterosis. The heterosis expresses the superiority of F1 hybrid over its parents in term of yield and other characters. On the other hand, inbreeding depression reflects on reduction or loss in vigour, fertility and yield. Proportion of inbreeding depression in any generation becomes essential for the plant breeders. Heritability expresses the relative amount of heritable portion of variation; however, its estimate along with genetic advance is more useful in predicting the resultant effect of selecting the best individuals.
