In Afrika stammen 80 % der landwirtschaftlichen Produktion von Kleinbauern, bei denen es sich meist um Frauen handelt. Zu den wichtigsten Erkenntnissen dieses Buches gehört, dass Frauen als wichtige Akteure im Gartenbau in Kenia unsichtbar sind, aber erschreckenderweise eher als Gelegenheitsarbeiterinnen oder mit kurzen Saisonverträgen beschäftigt werden. Diese Studie bietet neue Erkenntnisse über Geschlecht und Unternehmertum als einen entscheidenden Bereich für das Verständnis gesellschaftlicher Dynamiken und hilft somit bei der Entwicklung von Strategien, die das Wachstum des Sektors fördern und zum Gender Mainstreaming beitragen.
