Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Theologie - Systematische Theologie, Note: 1,3, Universität Erfurt (Katholisch-theologische Fakultät), Veranstaltung: Seminar: Determination und Freiheit angesichts der Hirnforschung, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der modernen Hirnforschung gibt es eine zunehmende Strömung, die eine rein naturwissenschaftliche und materialistische Erklärung aller Vorgänge im Menschen versucht. Dabei wird von einer absoluten Determiniertheit in allen Lebensbereichen ausgegangen. Besonders in den Veröffentlichungen der beiden bekanntesten Vertreter dieser Richtung, Gerhard Roth und Wolf Singer, kann man dies deutlich beobachten. Für die Theologie hat dies weitreichende Konsequenzen, da durch die moderne Hirnforschung die Freiheit des Menschen geleugnet wird und die Konzepte von Geist und Seele als überholt betrachtet werden. Hier ist eine kritische Auseinandersetzung notwendig, um zu klären, inwieweit die Positionen von Neurowissenschaftlern und Theologen sich wirklich widersprechen und wo möglicherweise nur von unterschiedlichen Kategorien gesprochen wird.Diese Arbeit soll eine einleitende Untersuchung sein, wie die moderne Hirnforschung zum Problem der Seele überhaupt und zu deren Unsterblichkeit steht und was aus Sicht der christlichen Theologie dazu zu sagen ist. Exemplarisch für die Position der Hirnforschung werden Texte von Roth und Singer herangezogen.
