Gabrio Piola, matematico studioso della meccanica del continuo dell’Istituto Lombardo di Scienze, lettere ed Arti, è incaricato di scrivere e leggere l’elogio di un grande scienziato italiano. E’ Bonaventura Cavalieri, matematico e fisico del XVII secolo, allievo e amico di Galileo Galilei. Questo libro propone la lettura di questo elogio. E’ una lettura interessante perché ci mostra il ritratto di un insigne studioso italiano, attraverso le parole di un altrettanto insigne studioso della meccanica del continuo, che si rivela impareggiabile storico della scienza.
