Gli esperimenti sono stati condotti tra dicembre 2004 e ottobre 2005 presso il laboratorio di patologia vegetale avanzata dell’Università di Agricoltura di Makurdi, per determinare la presenza e il controllo di funghi portatori di semi o di roselle. Makurdi, per determinare la presenza e il controllo di funghi portatori di semi di rosella. (Hibiscus sabdarifJa L.). I semi di rosella utilizzati per gli esperimenti sono stati raccolti dall’azienda agricola di insegnamento e ricerca dell’Università di Agraria di Makurdi e da agricoltori selezionati a caso in sette diverse città/villaggi degli Stati di Benue, Nasarawa e Plateau. L’individuazione dei funghi trasmessi dai semi è stata effettuata principalmente con il metodo standard del blotter. I funghi individuati comprendono Fusarium spp (16,40%), Penicillium spp (2,1,30%) Chactontium spp (1,17%), Aspergillus niger van Tiegh (37J3%), Aspergillus jlavus (42. Il trattamento dei semi con Seed plus, Aldrex T e Benomyl ha eliminato Fusarium spp, Penicillium spp, Chactonium spp e A. flavus dai semi. Tra tutti i prodotti chimici testati, il Benomyl è stato il più efficace, controllando tutti i funghi portatori di semi riscontrati sui semi di rosella al dosaggio di 1 kg per tonnellata.
