A gestão das áreas protegidas, especialmente no que diz respeito à sua flora e vegetação, requer um conhecimento prévio e detalhado das espécies e comunidades ou conjuntos que compõem as fitocenoses, a fim de poder realizar uma boa gestão. Este foi o objetivo do presente trabalho, para o qual se realizou a avaliação florística e fisionómica das formações florestais presentes nesta área protegida com categoria de gestão de elemento natural excecional.Entre os resultados mais relevantes, confirmou-se a presença de 446 espécies e 312 géneros, pertencentes a 94 famílias botânicas. Foram recolhidas 41 espécies endémicas pan-cubanas. Foram também recolhidas três espécies ameaçadas de extinção. Relativamente aos tipos de adaptação morfológica, é de salientar que 19 espécies de plantas que compõem as zonas arborizadas da serra têm microfilia, 11 têm espinhos, três têm folhas suculentas e 12 têm folíolos duros.A diversidade de espécies é elevada porque se trata de florestas maduras e estruturalmente complexas.
