Os fatores que influenciam o uso de medicamentos pelos consumidores em Tiko, Camarões, contam a história de como os desafios económicos, os fortes laços socioculturais e a regulamentação deficiente contribuem para o acesso e uso inadequado de medicamentos pelos consumidores de saúde. O estudo analisa três grupos de consumidores: professores, motoristas de táxi e pequenos comerciantes que vendem produtos agrícolas, e captura pontos de vista interessantes desses três grupos. Os consumidores obtêm os seus medicamentos em pontos de venda oficiais e não oficiais. As razões pelas quais os consumidores precisam e obtêm medicamentos variam entre necessidades de saúde reais e necessidades de saúde percebidas, e o tratamento pode ser completo ou incompleto, dependendo da viabilidade financeira do consumidor e da quantidade disponível de um vizinho, amigo ou irmão benevolente disposto a partilhar o que tem disponível.
