Les facteurs influençant l’utilisation des médicaments par les consommateurs à Tiko, au Cameroun, montrent comment les difficultés économiques, les liens socioculturels forts et la réglementation insuffisante contribuent à un accès et à une utilisation inappropriés des médicaments par les consommateurs de soins de santé. L’étude se penche sur trois groupes de consommateurs : les enseignants, les chauffeurs de taxi et les petits commerçants vendant des produits alimentaires, et recueille des points de vue intéressants de ces trois groupes. Les consommateurs se procurent leurs médicaments dans des points de vente officiels et non officiels. Les raisons pour lesquelles ils ont besoin et se procurent des médicaments varient entre des besoins réels et des besoins perçus, et le traitement peut être complet ou incomplet selon la situation financière du consommateur et la quantité disponible auprès d’un voisin, d’un ami ou d’un frère bienveillant prêt à partager ce qu’il a.
