Pubblicato nel 1940 dalla 'Scuola di Mistica Fascista', il libro di Spinetti chiarisce l’idea di libertà secondo la concezione fascista della vita e del mondo. Essa veniva identificata dall’autore nell’autodominio conseguito in libera volontà e piena coscienza, dopo aver affrontato il problema della natura umana, dell’individuo, dello Stato, dell’idea di razza, del diritto alla Rivoluzione, alla luce della crisi di civiltà che sconvolgeva il mondo in quel frangente. La prima parte del saggio è dedicata alla lotta in Italia per l’affermazione di una nuova cultura. Al pensiero di Mussolini è rivolta la seconda, dove sono riportate in modo coordinato le sue affermazioni. La terza tratteggia una nuova sintesi filosofico-politica vigorosa, ispirata agli insegnamenti mussoliniani, atta a soddisfare le esigenze spirituali degli uomini del tempo fascista, che intendevano abbattere l’individualismo materialista senza immolare l’individualità. In appendice il contributo originale su 'L’essenza dottrinale del Fascismo.'
