O objetivo deste estudo foi contribuir para uma melhor compreensão dos factores que influenciam a desnutrição em crianças com menos de cinco anos no Djibuti, a fim de orientar adequadamente os programas de saúde infantil. Utilizando dados do segundo Inquérito à Saúde e à Família do Jibuti (EDSF2, 2012), o estudo concluiu que a desnutrição afecta as crianças cujas mães vivem em zonas rurais nas regiões de Dikhil e Obock. Tratava-se de crianças de agregados familiares pobres, cujas mães tinham 35 anos ou mais aquando do parto e cujos filhos tinham 5 anos ou mais.A análise explicativa revelou, então, que o local de residência, a região de residência, o nível de vida do agregado familiar, a vacinação, a qualidade da água potável e a ordem de nascimento são as variáveis que explicam a prevalência da malnutrição. Estas são as variáveis que explicam a desnutrição infantil a nível nacional, e foi encontrada uma relação positiva entre a pobreza e a frequência escolar das crianças.
