O citomegalovírus (CMV) é o maior membro da família Betaherpesviridae. A infecção por CMV é a principal causa de hepatite viral não A-G. A hepatite por CMV é relativamente comum em idades precoces, especialmente na primeira infância, e é importante porque pode resultar em cirrose e até mesmo morte. Este estudo foi realizado para determinar o papel do CMV em crianças com hepatite serologicamente negativas para hepatite B e C, através da deteção da presença da proteína CMV (pp65) no tecido hepático, utilizando imuno-histoquímica.
