Soil microbial diversity is essential for maintaining soil health, ecosystem functions, and sustainable agricultural productivity. Intensive farming practices, such as monocropping, excessive tillage, and heavy use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, reduce microbial diversity and degrade soil quality. In contrast, sustainable practices including organic farming, crop rotation, conservation tillage, and integrated nutrient management enhance beneficial microbial communities, improve soil fertility, and increase ecosystem resilience. Recent advances in metagenomics and multi-omics have expanded our understanding of soil microbiomes and their ecological functions. Promoting and utilizing soil microbial diversity through biofertilizers and microbiome-based technologies offers a sustainable approach to improving crop productivity, soil health, and long-term food security.
