Depuis les années 1960, lorsque de nombreux pays africains ont accédé à l’indépendance, plusieurs pays africains anglophones ont connu des expériences démocratiques réussies qui ont eu un impact positif intrinsèque sur leurs résultats en matière de développement progressif, contrairement à leurs homologues francophones. Cette situation a donné lieu à des controverses sur les causes, les impacts et les perspectives d’avenir des pays africains francophones et anglophones. Une hypothèse a été formulée à partir du postulat selon lequel les pays africains anglophones auraient connu un degré de progrès relativement plus élevé dans leurs processus de démocratisation que les pays africains francophones depuis les années 1990. Les différentes controverses entourant l’histoire et la pratique de la démocratie en Afrique ont été examinées à partir de documentaires principalement publiés et non publiés. Les analyses théoriques basées sur les pratiques démocratiques joueront un rôle essentiel dans cette analyse. Étant donné que les questions abordées dans cette étude ne sont pas exhaustives dans une certaine mesure, les points soulevés contribueront à alimenter la controverse entourant la démocratie africaine et pourraient déclencher d’autres discussions intéressantes sur la démocratisation de l’Afrique!
