Cette étude examine un collège communautaire public du Maryland afin de déterminer s’il dispose réellement d’un programme d’éducation de base ou d’un programme d’enseignement correctif. L’étude a interrogé des étudiants, les présidents du département d’anglais et le directeur du développement institutionnel afin d’examiner la structure des programmes, la rétention et le coût du programme si un étudiant doit s’inscrire à trois niveaux d’anglais, de mathématiques et de lecture. L’étude examine également le niveau et la fréquence de la communication afin de déterminer le niveau de communication des différents départements et de voir s’il y a un enseignement dans les différents programmes d’éducation au développement. L’étude a examiné la rétention et l’attrition afin de déterminer l’impact de la perte et de la rétention des étudiants sur le budget. Les résultats ont été pour le moins très intéressants.
