Le piégeage du carbone devient un objectif politique international majeur dans le contexte des préoccupations croissantes concernant le changement climatique mondial. Le Bhind est une région semi-aride de l’Inde. Si la majorité des personnes qui pratiquent l’agriculture de subsistance peuvent recevoir ne serait-ce qu’une petite quantité de carbone grâce à leurs pratiques agroforestières, cela contribuerait de manière substantielle à leur bien-être économique et au développement global de la région. Une analyse du potentiel de séquestration du carbone de diverses pratiques agroforestières (traditionnelles et nouvellement introduites) dans la région est donc opportune. Ce livre décrit la nécessité de ce travail de recherche, l’enquête sur le terrain, la collecte de données primaires et secondaires, l’interprétation des données dans les six blocs du district de Bhind du Madhya Pradesh. Le potentiel de séquestration du carbone (PSC) des systèmes agroforestiers est de 0,30 Mg C ha-1yr-1. Cela signifie que 34647 ha de surface agroforestière peuvent compenser 38146,34 tonnes deCO2 par an au niveau du district à partir du système agroforestier.
