L’étude a examiné le potentiel de l’acide folique (AF) en tant qu’agent radiomodificateur dans les embryons de poisson zèbre exposés aux rayonnements ionisants (IR). L’AF, un micronutriment du complexe B, agit comme coenzyme dans le métabolisme des acides aminés et dans la synthèse de l’ADN et de l’ARN. En utilisant des tests de viabilité cellulaire, la concentration inhibitrice médiane (IC50) de l’AF a été déterminée dans la lignée cellulaire NCTC-L929 (tissu conjonctif de souris) (2,366 mg/mL). Des tests ont ensuite été effectués pour déterminer la dose létale médiane (DL50) de l’IR dans des embryons irradiés à 4, 6 et 24 heures après la fécondation (DL50, 4 hpf - 96h : 9,77 Gy et 24 hpf - 144 h : 12,85 Gy). Ensuite, des tests de concentration létale médiane (CL50) ont été effectués sur des embryons de poisson zèbre exposés pendant 120 heures (CL50 : 0,679 mg/mL). Les résultats suggèrent que l’AF a un potentiel radioprotecteur, se distinguant comme une stratégie thérapeutique possible, fournissant des contributions importantes pour la recherche future. Les organismes irradiés après incubation avec HF ont montré une survie significative, avec une augmentation de 12% à 96 hpf, de 17% à 120 hpf et de 22% à 144 hpf.
