Le présent travail traite de l’étude de la viabilité des cires de carnauba de type 1, 2, 3 et 4, à des teneurs de 3 et 5 % (m/m), en tant qu’additifs pour l’obtention de mélanges asphaltiques tièdes. Les cires ont été caractérisées par spectroscopie dans l’infrarouge, analyse thermique et fluorescence aux rayons X, afin d’analyser leur composition structurelle, leur stabilité thermique et leur point de fusion. Les cires des quatre types ont été utilisées comme modificateur pour le liant bitumineux et les effets obtenus ont été évalués par des essais empiriques et rhéologiques. Les résultats des essais empiriques indiquent une réduction de la pénétration et une augmentation du point de ramollissement en présence des cires, ce qui confère au liant une plus grande rigidité. Les essais rhéologiques ont montré une amélioration en termes de possibilité d’utilisation sur des routes à fort trafic (Heavy - H) pour le liant modifié avec 5 % de CT4. Les résultats de cette étude montrent que la cire de carnauba répond à certaines des exigences de base nécessaires à son utilisation comme additif dans les enrobés tièdes.
