A presente pesquisa é um estudo detalhado das plantas relacionadas à vida de uma tribo primitiva, a Paliya, que habita as encostas orientais dos Ghats Ocidentais. O estudo foi realizado em sete assentamentos Paliya no distrito de Idukki, em Kerala, durante o período de janeiro a agosto de 2014. As informações etnobotânicas foram recolhidas utilizando fontes de dados primárias e secundárias. A recolha de dados primários foi feita através de visitas de campo às sete aldeias das comunidades Paliya. O método de recolha de dados primários envolveu três componentes: visitas de campo, discussão em grupo focal e recolha e identificação das plantas. Os dados secundários foram recolhidos a partir dos registos oficiais mantidos nos departamentos tribais, no departamento florestal e nos registos de estudos sobre a vida dos Paliya.
