Esta investigação foi realizada para estudar as diferenças morfométricas e moleculares nas populações de Phlebotomus orientalis de três regiões diferentes do Sudão. Amostras de flebotomíneos foram coletadas nos estados de Gedaref, Nilo Branco e Cartum. Os espécimes de P. orientalis foram coletados usando armadilhas luminosas miniatura CDC e armadilhas de papel adesivo. Os espécimes de flebotomíneos foram então montados em lâminas de vidro em meio Brelese e identificados ao nível da espécie. Em seguida, as amostras montadas de P. orientalis foram processadas para medições morfométricas de 23 e 29 caracteres para fêmeas e machos, respectivamente. Além disso, os genes Cyt b, ITS2 rDNA 18S de P. orientalis de diferentes regiões foram amplificados por PCR convencional e em tempo real. As amostras amplificadas dos genes Cyt b e ITS2 foram purificadas e sequenciadas. As sequências foram montadas, editadas, analisadas e, em seguida, comparadas com a base de dados do GenBank. As populações de P. orientalis de três áreas geográficas mostraram algum grau de diferença com base na análise morfométrica e molecular.
