Il carcinoma bronchiale è uno dei tumori più diffusi sia negli uomini che nelle donne. Nel 2014 in Germania circa 36.000 uomini e 19.600 donne hanno sviluppato un carcinoma bronchiale. La diagnosi rimane problematica per la pianificazione della terapia, poiché i sintomi clinici compaiono solitamente in fase avanzata. Le proteine da shock termico sembrano svolgere un ruolo importante nei pazienti affetti da carcinoma bronchiale. Le proteine da shock termico sono piccole proteine con peso molecolare variabile, che vengono espresse in misura maggiore nelle cellule stressate. A loro vengono attribuite diverse funzioni, sia di protezione e stimolazione immunitaria che di effetto antiapoptotico nelle cellule degenerate. Sia dopo la radioterapia che dopo la chemioterapia sistematica, è stata osservata un’aumentata espressione delle proteine da shock termico anche nei polmoni. In questo lavoro è stata riscontrata un’aumentata espressione delle proteine da shock termico nel lavaggio bronchiale di tutti i pazienti affetti da tumore. Sono state riscontrate solo differenze qualitative, ma non quantitative, nel comportamento di espressione di queste proteine.
