(Draasma, 1999, 124). Nur wenige Regionen der Erde werden noch heute in den Massenmedien derart typisiert und idealisiert dargestellt wie die Südsee. Ihr Mythos, deren Grundstein im 18. Jahrhundert mit der Idealisierung des Südseeinsulaners in den Reiseberichten Louis Antoine de Bougainvilles nach dessen Weltumsegelung gelegt wurde, hält sich über die Jahrhunderte und wurde über alle möglichen Medien den Massen zugänglich gemacht. Von Rousseaus „Edlem Wilden', Georg Forsters überschwänglichen Beschreibungen der Naturschönheiten Tahitis, den utopischen Romanen, wie etwa Thomas Morusʻ Utopia≫, Robinsonaden und Paul Gaugins, Max Pechsteins und Emil Noldes Gemälden über Filme wie 'In the Wake of the Bounty' (1933) mit Errol Flynn oder 'Paradise - Hawaiian Style' (1966) mit Elvis Presley und Musik wie etwa jene des 1997 verstorbenen Hawaianers Israel Kamakawiwoʻole fanden die Bilder von mit farbenprächtigen Tüchern verhüllten Hoola-tanzenden, in paradiesischen Gärten lebenden Mädchen und Kokosmilch-schlurfenden, tätowierten und starken Kriegern nicht nur Eintritt in das kollektive Gedächtnis der Massenmedienkonsumenten, sondern auch in eine der beliebtesten Comicserien der USA und Europas: Die Simpsons. Die 1987 zum ersten Mal in der Tracy Ullman Show auf dem US- amerikanischen Sender Fox ausgestrahlte gelbe TV-Familie drang seitdem nicht nur in die US-amerikanische und europäische Popkultur ein, sondern wurde fester Bestandteil Letzterer und somit auch Ausgangspunkt für mögliche Kritik an dieser.
