Die Bauindustrie steht vor dem Problem hoher Kosten für die Projektabwicklung, schlechter finanzieller Ergebnisse und der Unfähigkeit, den Kunden rechtzeitig einen Mehrwert zu liefern. Ein wichtiger Faktor, der zu diesem Rückschlag beiträgt, ist die Nacharbeit. Nacharbeit ist definiert als der unnötige Aufwand für die Wiederholung einer Tätigkeit, die beim ersten Mal fehlerhaft ausgeführt wurde. In dieser Forschungsarbeit wurde eine Fragebogenerhebung mit verschiedenen Gründen für Nacharbeit durchgeführt. Die Erhebung wurde in der Stadt Surat in der Region Süd-Gujarat durchgeführt. Aus den verschiedenen Literaturen wurden 48 Ursachen für Nacharbeit in 7 Hauptgruppen eingeteilt, die mit Hilfe der IMPORTANCE INDEX (IMPI)-Methode auf ihre Auswirkung im Bauwesen überprüft wurden. Die wichtigsten Ursachen wurden zur Entwicklung des FIELD REWORK INDEX (FRI) verwendet. Die FRI-Punktzahl zwischen 14 und 30 entsprach dem Stadium der Annäherung, 30 bis 45 dem Stadium der normalen Wachsamkeit und 45 bis 70 dem Stadium der Nacharbeitswarnung. Nachdem der FRI-Fragebogen an 11 Baustellen verteilt wurde, haben 3 Baustellen (27,27%) eine erfolgreiche Annäherung, 8 Baustellen (72,73%) haben normale Chancen auf Nacharbeit und 0 Baustellen haben eine hohe Alarmstufe.
